The Treaty, concluded on 17 August 1992 and amended in 2001, 2007 and 2008, establishes the Southern African Development Community (SADC), regulating its legal status.
SADC shall be an international organization and shall have legal personality (Article 3).
SADC, its institution and staff shall enjoy, in the territory of each member State, such privileges and immunities as are necessary for the proper performance of their functions, and which shall be similar to those accorded to comparable international organizations. The immunities and privileges conferred by this Article shall be prescribed in a Protocol (Article 31).
